Dollar Stays Near Record Highs as Yields and Fed Hints Fuel Rally
The US dollar has remained near its recent highs as Treasury yields stayed elevated and traders became increasingly confident that the Federal Reserve may raise interest rates again.
This has put pressure on other major currencies, including the euro and British pound, which have seen their values decline against the dollar. The dollar index rose by over 1% this week, reaching around 101.2.
The increased yields are making US assets more attractive to investors, while firm economic data and hawkish comments from Fed speakers have also contributed to the upward trend in the dollar's value. However, some strategists have noted that US fiscal worries and unpredictable policymaking may be limiting the dollar's gains.
The yen has actually seen a brief bounce after Japan's Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama stated that President Donald Trump expressed concerns about yen weakness and reaffirmed the coordination behind July's joint intervention. Goldman Sachs, a major investment bank, has revised its 12-month USD/JPY forecast to 150 from 165 due to policy risk.
