Dollar Steady, Euro Declines as Cuba's Informal Market Continues to Shift
The informal currency market in Cuba has seen significant changes over the past week. The US dollar maintained its position, trading at 663 Cuban pesos (CUP) on August 19, 2026, with no change from the previous day. This stability comes after a slight dip of 2.5 pesos, representing a 0.4% drop from 665 CUP a week ago.
The euro, however, has lost ground in the informal market. It closed at 750 CUP on August 19, down from 757 CUP the previous day and continuing its downward trend over the past week. The euro's decline is significant, with a loss of 17.5 pesos from 768 CUP over the last month.
The MLC, a digital currency used in Cuba, had an indicative value of around 471 CUP due to limited trading volume. This represents a slight increase from the previous day but remains a less dominant player in the market compared to the dollar and euro.
