Dollar Strengthens Amid Rate Hopes and Oil Price Volatility
The US dollar strengthened on Wednesday as investors reassessed the outlook for monetary policy in major economies. The dollar index climbed 0.24% to 100.79, its strongest level in about two months.
The euro slipped 0.25% to $1.142, while the pound fell 0.3% to $1.3305. Higher interest rates can make US assets more attractive to global investors, and recent comments from Federal Reserve officials have kept alive the possibility of further rate increases if inflation remains above policymakers' comfort level.
Crude oil prices are also playing a significant role in shaping market expectations. Brent crude moved back above $99 a barrel after recently coming under pressure amid hopes that diplomatic efforts at the United Nations could help ease tensions in the Middle East.
