Dollar Strengthens Amid Rising Yields and Hawkish Central Bank Comments
The dollar index DXY reached a 1.75-month high on Wednesday, closing up by +0.53%. The dollar's strength can be attributed to the surge in 10-year T-note yields, which hit a 19-year high of 5.13%, boosting interest rate differentials.
Additionally, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) increased its 2026 US GDP forecast by +0.2% to 2.2%, while lowering its US inflation forecast by -0.1% to 3.6%. These developments supported the dollar further.
Fed Governor Michael Barr's comments also contributed to the dollar's rally, as he stated that 'further policy adjustments by the Fed are likely to be needed to ensure inflation comes down to target in a timely fashion.'
