Dollar Surges on Hawkish Fed Expectations, Near Two-Month High
The US dollar index rose to its highest level in nearly two months at 101.24, fueled by expectations that the Federal Reserve will maintain its hawkish monetary policy.
This surge was driven by a strong US economy, continued inflationary pressures, and forecasts of further rate hikes from the Fed, which investors believe will continue to support the dollar's value.
Jane Foley, senior foreign exchange strategist at Rabobank, noted that the recent rise in oil prices and comments from Fed board member Michael Barr also contributed to the market's expectations for another policy tightening as soon as next month.
Foley also mentioned that while European Central Bank rate hike speculation is prevalent in the market, the upside potential for the euro is limited by the eurozone's status as an energy importer and next year's French Presidential election.
