Dollar Weakens Sharply Against Yen After Official Intervention
The US dollar has weakened sharply against the Japanese yen after officials from both countries confirmed they intervened in markets. This significant move comes after the dollar was trading at a 40-year high of around 163 yen before regulators were suspected of stepping in.
After late last week, the dollar's value had begun to drop below 160 yen. However, it wasn't until early Monday morning that the official announcement of the intervention led to a significant decline in the dollar's value, dropping approximately 1% to 156.34 yen.
The exchange rate change is substantial, marking a notable shift in the market dynamics between the two currencies. The involvement of US President Donald Trump and Japan's finance minister in intervening in markets has been confirmed, leading to this significant adjustment in the dollar-yen rate.
