The dollar took a significant hit following a surprise negative reading in nonfarm payrolls data for July. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a decline of 23,000 jobs, far below the expected increase of 80,000.

This rare occurrence has cooled expectations regarding the Federal Reserve's monetary policy path and led to a sharp appreciation of the yen. The USD/JPY pair fell as much as 1.1% to 156.68 before paring gains to a decline of approximately 0.5%, according to reports.

Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama stated that Japan and the United States maintain close communication and will not hesitate to intervene in the foreign exchange market if necessary, further reinforcing market expectations of coordinated intervention.
