The dollar-yen pair remained stable in the Tokyo foreign exchange market on the 5th, holding near the 158.10 level in the afternoon. European currencies, particularly the euro, faced selling pressure due to French fiscal concerns and political instability, prompting investors to seek refuge in the Australian dollar.

In early trading, the dollar-yen pair softened from around 157.80, briefly dropping to 157.60 shortly after 9 a.m. before recovering to the 158 level by the afternoon. Meanwhile, EUR/JPY fell from 177.82 to 177.25, later trading between 176.40 and 177.81. The euro-dollar pair also declined from $1.1261 to $1.1161 at one point in the afternoon.

The market displayed mixed trends, with the yen strengthening against both the dollar and the euro, while the dollar also firmed against the euro. The Australian dollar, a resource-linked currency, faced pressure against the dollar but showed resilience against the yen amid the broader European currency weakness.

Key trading ranges for major currency pairs included dollar-yen at 157.44-158.17, EUR/JPY at 176.40-177.81, and euro-dollar at 1.1161-1.1261. French political uncertainty and fiscal management disputes intensified euro-selling pressure, with some funds shifting toward the higher-yielding Australian dollar.

Speculation around U.S. monetary policy continues to influence the dollar-yen pair. With mixed views on the pace of Federal Reserve rate cuts, the dollar has maintained a firm position against the yen, and market focus remains on whether it can sustain the 158 level in the near term.
