Dollar/Yen Volatility Rises Ahead of US PCE Price Index Release

The dollar/yen pair experienced significant price fluctuations in Tokyo foreign exchange trading on the 30th, settling at 156.88-92 yen per dollar as of 3:00 p.m.

Weaker for the dollar and stronger for the yen compared to late New York trading the previous day (157.28-31 yen), the pair's volatility was attributed to the convergence of month-end, quarter-end, and half-year-end flows on the same day.

This resulted in a market without clear direction, with actual demand-driven buying and selling colliding.

Caution intensified ahead of the release of the US Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index, a key inflation gauge watched closely by the Federal Reserve, scheduled for the evening Japan time.
