The Dutch central bank (DNB) has relocated billions of dollars in gold from North America to London, citing 'increasing geopolitical unrest'.

According to DNB, 86 tonnes of gold was removed from the US and Canada over several months between March and August. The precious metal is now being held by the Bank of England, where it can be traded more easily in a crisis situation.

DNB president Olaf Sleijpen explained that the move was 'necessary to strengthen our resilience and preparedness'. This shift comes amid an ongoing trade dispute between the US and Canada, with both countries announcing fresh tariffs on each other after failed trade talks.
