Pound Weakens Despite Rising Gilt Yields

The British Pound (GBP) has been underperforming despite rising gilt yields, which are typically seen as an attractive feature for foreign investors. The GBP/USD pair is currently trading just below 1.3500, about 1.5% lower than its peak in August.

UK 10-year gilt yields have reached their highest level since 2008, but this has not had the expected effect on the Pound's value. In fact, the currency has been weakening despite these higher yields.

This may be due to the upcoming September 17 meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), where the decision on gilt sales will be announced alongside the interest rate decision. This combination of supply and demand factors could make the market more sensitive to changes in gilt yields.
