The European Central Bank's (ECB) board has sent a letter to top management demanding greater transparency and explanations regarding Christine Lagarde's possible early departure from her position as president of the ECB. The current term concludes in October 2027.

Lagarde, who is also rumored to be considering a run for the French presidency or taking on a leadership role at the World Economic Forum (Davos Forum), has been under scrutiny after journalists questioned her continuity during last week's monetary policy meeting. The ECB decided to raise interest rates by 25 basis points.

The personnel committee warns that Lagarde's potential departure could damage the bank's image and prestige, affecting confidence in its communications and complicating leadership succession planning.
