ECB Chief Economist Says Wage Pressures Remain Limited Amid Energy Inflation
Philip Lane, chief economist at the European Central Bank (ECB), recently spoke about the current state of wage pressures in the region. Despite this year's energy-driven inflation increase, Lane stated that major wage pressures are not being observed by the ECB.
Lane explained that workers are aware of rising living costs but face constraints from employers. According to him, people know the cost of living is going up more than they expected, but firms say they're being outcompeted by China and have automation technology at their disposal, which limits wage increases.
