ECB Dives into Tokenized Securities Market
The European Central Bank (ECB) is taking a significant step towards developing tokenized securities markets by investing in the emerging asset class.
As part of this effort, the ECB will invest a portion of its own funds portfolio in tokenized Euro area government securities and European supranational securities.
The bank aims to gain first-hand experience in trade execution, settlement, systems, and portfolio management utilizing tokenized securities, which could potentially make wholesale market transactions faster and more efficient.
In support of this initiative, the ECB has launched a solution called Pontes for settling wholesale trades in tokenized securities in central bank money.
