The European Central Bank (ECB) has raised its three key interest rates by 25 basis points for the second time this year. This decision was made in Berlin on September 10, away from its usual base in Frankfurt.

The deposit facility rate will rise to 2.5 per cent, the main refinancing rate to 2.65 per cent, and the marginal lending rate to 2.9 per cent from September 16.

The move was widely priced in by markets, following the ECB's first rate rise since 2023 in June and a pause in July.
