ECB Keeps Rates Unchanged, Eyes September Rate Hike

The European Central Bank (ECB) has maintained its official interest rates at 2.25% for now, despite market expectations of a potential increase. This decision comes as energy prices continue to rise due to the escalating conflict between the U.S. and Iran.

Analysts agree that this pause does not mean the cycle of increases is over, with September potentially bringing another rate hike. Madison Faller from J.P. Morgan Private Bank views today's decision as 'keeping the foot suspended on the brake', rather than a sign of relaxation.

Economists at various firms are predicting a 0.25% increase in September, with some even anticipating rates to reach 2.50%. However, Ulrike Kastens from DWS cautions that energy prices must fall quickly for this to happen.
