ECB Launches Enhanced Repo Facility for Central Banks
The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced plans to implement an enhanced repo facility for central banks, aimed at supporting the smooth transmission of monetary policy and reinforcing the international role of the euro.
The new facility will be operated by five national central banks - Deutsche Bundesbank, Banco de Espana, Banque de France, Banca d'Italia, and De Nederlandsche Bank - under the coordination of the ECB.
The enhanced repo facility (EUREP) will provide euro liquidity to non-euro area central banks in the form of loans against high-quality euro-denominated collateral. The main refinancing operations (MRO) rate plus a spread set by the Governing Council will determine the price of these loans.
