ECB Unveils New Euro Banknote Designs: Culture vs Nature Themes
The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced plans to introduce new euro banknotes featuring iconic figures from European history and culture. The banknotes will be available in all stores across the country, with voting open for the public to select their preferred design.
The ECB received over 1,200 sketches before narrowing down the list to two thematic directions: European culture and nature. The culture-themed direction features six key figures from history, including Maria Callas, Ludwig van Beethoven, Marie Curie, Cervantes, Leonardo da Vinci, and Bertha von Suttner.
The alternative option focuses on nature, featuring a series of banknotes with images of European birds against river landscapes. Each design will have a different bird species, including the wallcreeper, kingfisher, bee-eater, white stork, wryneck, and northern fulmar.
