ECB Policymaker Reiterates Flexible Approach to Interest Rates
European Central Bank policymaker Martin Kocher has reaffirmed that the ECB will assess and decide on interest rates from meeting to meeting. Speaking in an interview with Austrian newspaper Kurier, Kocher stressed that the current high level of uncertainty and price shock due to the situation in the Middle East require a flexible approach.
Kocher stated that the ECB would reassess the economic situation anew at every meeting, rather than following a set plan or target. This approach aims to account for the rapidly changing circumstances and mitigate potential risks.
The ECB has been under pressure to adjust its monetary policy in response to inflation concerns and global market volatility. Kocher's comments suggest that the bank is taking a cautious stance, prioritizing stability over aggressive rate hikes.
