ECB Releases Bank Interest Rate Statistics: Corporations Hold Steady, Households See Increase
The European Central Bank (ECB) has released its latest bank interest rate statistics for August 2026. The composite cost-of-borrowing indicator, which combines interest rates on all loans to corporations, remained broadly unchanged at 3.77%.
In terms of specific loan categories, the interest rate on new loans over €1 million with a floating rate and an initial rate fixation period of up to three months decreased by 14 basis points to 3.34%. The rate on new loans of the same size with an initial rate fixation period of over three months and up to one year fell by 6 basis points to 3.78%.
For households, the composite cost-of-borrowing indicator increased in August 2026. The interest rate on loans for house purchase with a floating rate and an initial rate fixation period of up to one year rose by 17 basis points to 3.86%, driven by both the interest rate and weight effects.
