ECB Seeks European Input for New Banknote Designs

The European Central Bank (ECB) is inviting Europeans to vote on future banknote designs as the deadline approaches. Over 9 million people have already participated in the survey, but the ECB is encouraging more to share their opinions before it closes next Monday.

The proposed designs differ significantly from existing banknotes and feature themes such as European culture, rivers, and birds, including famous composers. The results will inform the ECB's final decision, expected by the end of 2026, but will not determine it entirely.

Cash remains an essential part of daily life for millions of Europeans, according to Piero Cipollone, an ECB Executive Board member. He noted that cash provides stability and trust, fosters financial inclusion, and protects privacy.
