ECB Seeks Merchants for Digital Euro Pilot
The European Central Bank (ECB) has launched a call for online and mobile merchants in the euro area to participate in a 12-month pilot with the digital euro. The pilot aims to evaluate user experience and operational processes, and is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027.
Applications will remain open until October 27, and selected businesses will be required to enable beta payments in the digital euro within remote commerce environments. They will also test how the currency can be integrated into payment processes at checkout.
The ECB has already selected 36 payment service providers, including Revolut, Stripe, Deutsche Bank, and UniCredit, to support user access, merchant acceptance, or both functions.
