ECB Seeks Merchants for Digital Euro Pilot Program
The European Central Bank (ECB) has launched a call for applications from merchants willing to participate in piloting digital euro payments. The pilot is expected to target companies providing services in e-commerce and mobile commerce within the euro area.
Interested parties will have until October 27 to apply for participation in the 2027 pilot program. Participating merchants will be required to provide beta digital euro payments within their remote commerce environments, testing how the digital euro integrates within payment processes.
The pilot will assess usability, technical aspects, and operational aspects of digital euro payments. The currency used in the pilot program will not have legal tender status during the process, and participation is voluntary with no payment from the bank.
