The European Central Bank (ECB) has reported an increase in consumers' inflation expectations for August, which may lead to further interest rate hikes. The ECB's monthly poll showed that euro-area households expect consumer prices to rise by 3% over the next year, up from 2.9% in July.

This is significant because it affects monetary policy decisions at the ECB. The three-year gauge of inflation expectations rose to 2.9% from 2.7% in July, while the five-year gauge also increased.
