ECB Sees Opportunity Amid Energy Price Surge

The European Central Bank (ECB) is in a good position to respond to surging energy prices, according to Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel.

Nagel said that the ECB's decision to leave interest rates unchanged on Thursday was due partly because the energy price surge is not generating second-round inflation impacts.

The rate hike in June already put the ECB in a good position from which it can monitor further developments closely, Nagel stated.

Nagel emphasized that the ECB should not pre-commit to any rate move and should instead analyze the large volume of data coming before its next meeting on September 10.
