ECB Unveils New Euro Banknotes Featuring Famous Europeans

The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced plans to issue new euro banknotes featuring famous Europeans, such as Maria Callas and Leonardo da Vinci. The move is part of a broader effort to increase the use of euros in everyday life and promote European culture. The ECB stated that 1,241 new designs will be introduced by 2026, replacing existing notes with images of famous people.

The new banknotes will feature iconic Europeans, including musicians, artists, and scientists. Maria Callas will appear on a €5 note, Ludwig van Beethoven on a €10 note, Marie Curie Skłodowska on a €20 note, Miguel de Cervantes on a €50 note, Leonardo da Vinci on a €100 note, and Bertha von Suttner on a €200 note.

While some have welcomed the move as an opportunity to promote European culture and increase the use of euros, others have expressed concerns about the potential impact on traditional banknotes. The ECB has assured that the new notes will be compatible with existing ATMs and cash machines.
