ECB Urged to Remain Flexible Amid Uncertain Inflation Path
The European Central Bank (ECB) must stay flexible to adapt to uncertain inflation trends, according to Governing Council member Joachim Nagel. The ongoing situation in the Middle East remains a critical factor in shaping future consumer prices, he noted.
Nagel emphasized that a long-term reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a return to normal energy flows could help reduce inflationary pressures. However, he warned that any renewed escalation in the region might lead to further disruptions and higher costs for oil and gas.
The Bundesbank president made these remarks on Monday, highlighting the need for the ECB to prepare for different inflation scenarios as the economic outlook remains volatile.
