ECB’s Rehn Monitors Markets Amid Global Central Bank Actions
European Central Bank (ECB) governing council member Olli Rehn has stated that he is closely monitoring market conditions but declined to comment on developments in specific countries. Rehn's remarks come amid ongoing financial market volatility and central bank actions around the world.
His comments follow a series of significant monetary policy decisions and statements from other major central banks. The Swiss National Bank (SNB) maintained its interest rate at 0.00% but reiterated its willingness to intervene in the foreign exchange market as needed to ensure appropriate monetary conditions.
Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams, a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee, indicated that there is no urgency for further rate hikes following the September increase. In contrast, Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) Governor Philip Lowe suggested that inflationary pressures may last longer than expected, hinting at the possibility of further rate hikes if necessary.
Japanese authorities have also expressed concerns about market behavior, with FX official Masato Mimura stating that they are closely watching whether markets are taking their messages at face value, expressing dissatisfaction with recent yen movements. Additionally, the Trump administration is reportedly preparing a plan to ban diesel exports for 90 days in an effort to lower energy prices, despite internal divisions.
