Energy Surge Fuels US Producer Price Rise
US producer prices rose by their most in three months on August 31, driven by a surge in energy costs. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the producer price index (PPI) increased by 0.4% compared to July, marking the highest monthly gain since May. Over the past year, PPI has risen by 5.4%, with energy prices being the main contributor.
The PPI excluding food and energy rose by 0.2% in August from the previous month and 4.6% from a year ago. This data release comes ahead of the Federal Reserve's meeting next week, where interest rates are likely to be a key topic of discussion.
