EU Ministers Convene in Dublin Amid Inflation Concerns
Finance Minister Makis Keravnos emphasized the need for close monitoring of inflation during EU meetings in Dublin. The meetings of the Eurogroup and the Informal EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council (Ecofin) concluded on September 19.
Keravnos highlighted the impact of elevated inflation on households' cost of living, stressing the need for collective monitoring and readiness to adopt policy measures to provide short-term support to economies. He also raised concerns over the conflict in the Middle East, which he said had increased uncertainty and created downside risks to growth and upside risks to inflation.
Keravnos suggested that European diplomacy should play a more active role in efforts to de-escalate tensions and bring conflicts to an end. He also emphasized the importance of timely implementation of structural reforms and investment, particularly in advancing the Savings and Investments Union and digital finance.
