EU Suffers 'Hellish Heat' Double-Blow Amid Fossil Fuel Crisis

The European Union is facing a perfect storm of economic pressures due to the record-breaking heatwaves that swept across the continent this summer. According to Simon Stiell, the United Nations' climate secretary, these 'hellish heat' conditions have heaped additional inflationary pressures on Europe.

The region's dependence on fossil fuels has long been a concern, and the ongoing crisis is driving up prices for households, businesses, and governments. August registered as the world's joint-hottest month on record, exacerbating the problem.

'The EU's summer of hellish heat comes on top of the ongoing fossil fuel cost crisis, and both are driving up prices,' Stiell told a European Parliament committee in Brussels.
