EUR/GBP Fails at 0.8610 Amid Oil Price Surge and BoE Hawkishness
The EUR/GBP currency pair faced resistance at 0.8610 on Monday, causing it to retreat back to session lows of 0.8690. This reversal was largely attributed to the rise in oil prices and the Bank of England's more hawkish stance under Governor Andrew Bailey.
On Friday, Bailey emphasized that keeping interest rates steady is becoming increasingly challenging due to rising price pressures, echoing similar sentiments from Deputy Governor Clare Lombardelli. These comments have boosted hopes for a potential BoE interest rate hike despite the sluggish economic momentum.
The ongoing Middle East conflict and refusal of Tehran's ceasefire plans have also contributed to the market uncertainty, leading to higher oil prices with Brent crude trading above $98.00. This added pressure weighs heavily on the already struggling Eurozone economies.
