EUR/JPY Treads Water Amid Japan CPI and Eurozone PMI Crosscurrents
The EUR/JPY exchange rate has remained relatively stable around 185.70 on Friday, as the Japanese Yen (JPY) receives support from higher-than-expected inflation data in Japan, while the Euro (EUR) benefits from strong activity indicators in the Eurozone.
In Japan, the core Consumer Price Index (CPI), which excludes fresh food, rose 1.8% year-over-year in July, its fastest pace of growth since January. This has reinforced expectations that the Bank of Japan (BoJ) could continue to normalize its monetary policy, potentially allowing for interest rate hikes.
In contrast, the Eurozone's preliminary HCOB Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) rose to 52.8 in August, beating forecasts, while Germany's Manufacturing PMI jumped to 54.1, its highest level in 51 months. However, these positive surprises have not been enough to push the EUR/JPY exchange rate beyond its current range.
