Euro and Pound Steady Amid Solid Economic Data
The Euro and British Pound have stabilized in their exchange rate, as solid economic indicators from both regions provide support for each currency. The EUR/GBP pair is trading around 0.8570 on Friday, virtually unchanged from Thursday's levels.
In the Eurozone, preliminary PMI data showed a rise to 52.8 in August, beating expectations of 51.8. Services activity remained steady at 51.7, while market forecasts predicted a slight decrease to 51.5. The Composite PMI improved to 52.1, exceeding the forecast and previous reading of 52.
Germany's Manufacturing PMI jumped to 54.1 in August, its highest level in 51 months, from 52.2 previously. However, the Services PMI fell to 48.5 from 49.8, missing expectations of a return to expansion territory at 50.1.
In contrast, preliminary S&P Global surveys on the UK side showed stronger-than-expected business activity. The UK Composite PMI rose to 52.5 in August from 52.2 previously, beating forecasts of 51.6. This improvement is mainly driven by the services sector, with the Services PMI accelerating to 52.8 from 52.1 and exceeding expectations.
