Euro Area Annual Inflation Hits 2.9% in July
The euro area annual inflation rate rose to 2.9% in July 2026, up from 2.8% in June and a year earlier when it was 2.0%. This increase is according to data published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
European Union annual inflation also increased to 3.0% in July 2026, compared to 2.9% in June and 2.4% a year earlier. The lowest annual rates were recorded in Sweden at 0.3%, Czechia at 1.3%, Denmark and Hungary both at 1.6%. In contrast, the highest annual rates were observed in Romania at 8.2%, Lithuania at 5.4%, Cyprus and Bulgaria both at 4.4%.
Compared to June 2026, annual inflation fell in fifteen Member States, remained stable in several others, but increased in some countries like Romania, which saw a significant jump of over 6 percentage points from last year's rate. Producer input prices rose by 4.9% and producer output (factory gate) prices rose by 3.1% in the year to July 2026.
