Euro Area Annual Inflation Rate Reaches 3.2% in August
The euro area annual inflation rate has increased to 3.2% in August 2026, up from 2.9% in July. This marks a year-over-year increase of 1.2 percentage points compared to August 2025's 2.0%. The European Union's annual inflation rate also rose to 3.2% in August 2026, up from 3.0% in July and 2.4% in August 2025.
The lowest annual rates were recorded in Sweden (0.3%), Estonia (1.3%), and Czechia (1.5%). In contrast, the highest annual rates were observed in Romania (6.3%), Lithuania (5.6%), and Cyprus (5.2%).
Compared to July 2026, inflation fell in six Member States, remained stable in one, and increased in twenty. The main contributors to the euro area's annual inflation rate were services (+1.43 percentage points), energy (+1.29 percentage points), non-energy industrial goods (+0.30 percentage points), and food, alcohol & tobacco (+0.22 percentage points).
