Euro Area Current Account Surplus Shrinks to $32.2 Billion
The Euro area's current account surplus narrowed to €28 billion (~$32.2 billion) in July 2026, according to data from the European Central Bank (ECB). This represents a decline of €7 billion (~$8.0 billion) compared to the previous month's surplus.
The July surplus was driven by a €36 billion (~$41.4 billion) goods surplus and a €12 billion (~$13.8 billion) services surplus, partly offset by deficits in secondary income and primary income. The goods surplus declined to €289 billion (~$332.2 billion), down from €341 billion (~$392 billion), while the secondary income deficit increased to €205 billion (~$235.6 billion).
The 12-month current account surplus fell to €282 billion (~$324.1 billion) or 1.7% of euro area GDP, compared to €298 billion (~$342.5 billion) or 1.9% one year earlier.
