Euro Area Economic Sentiment Slips Amid Rising Inflation Concerns
The euro area's economic sentiment reading for September was lower than expected, falling to 97.9 from 98.4 in August.
This decline may seem concerning, but it's not entirely a cause for alarm as industrial sentiment improved significantly, and services confidence also edged higher.
However, consumer inflation expectations climbed to 35.2, up from 33.0, while selling price expectations jumped to 20.3 from 16.9.
This mixed bag of data poses an uncomfortable situation for the European Central Bank (ECB), which is already monitoring how higher energy costs are impacting broader inflation pressures.
