Euro Area Financials See Mixed Trends in Q2 2026, ECB Data Shows
The European Central Bank (ECB) has released its second-quarter financial data for the euro area, showing mixed trends in household and non-financial corporate financing.
Households' gross disposable income grew at a higher annual rate of 3.2% in Q2 2026, driven by increased net property income and compensation of employees. However, the growth in household consumption expenditure outpaced that of gross disposable income, causing the household savings rate to decline to 14.4%.
Household financial investment increased at a lower annual rate of 2.6%, as investments in shares and other equity grew at a slower pace. On the other hand, investment in debt securities expanded at a higher rate of 6.2%. Household net worth rose by 5.3% due to faster growth in the prices of financial assets.
Non-financial corporations' (NFCs) gross operating surplus grew at a higher annual rate of 3.2%, while their financing increased at a higher annual growth rate of 1.7%. NFCs' debt-to-GDP ratio decreased to 66.0% in Q2 2026, down from 66.3% in the same quarter last year.
