Euro Area Fresh Food Inflation Hits 4% in September
The euro area's fresh food inflation has surged to 4.0% in September, up from 2.7% in August, according to Eurostat's flash estimate released on October 2.
This marks a significant increase, with unprocessed food prices rising 1.3% month-on-month and 4.0% year-on-year. In contrast, processed food inflation eased to 0.4% annually from 0.5% in August and fell 0.2% month-on-month.
The sharp jump in fresh food prices is a concern for supermarkets, as it can lead to higher costs and potential price increases for consumers. Retailers may need to manage their pricing strategies carefully to maintain value perception while dealing with volatile cost movements across fresh departments.
