Euro-Area Inflation Expectations Fall Sharply in June
A recent survey conducted by the European Central Bank (ECB) revealed that consumer price expectations among euro-area consumers for the next year declined significantly in June. The survey, which predates the oil spike triggered by a new flareup in fighting in the Middle East, showed that prices were seen rising at a slower pace than previously expected.
The monthly survey reported that inflation expectations fell to 3% from 5% in May, marking a notable drop. A more important gauge for setting monetary policy - a three-year expectation of price growth - also slipped to 2.8% from 2.9%. This decline in consumer price expectations may have implications for the ECB's monetary policy decisions.
