Euro Area Inflation Hits 3.2% in August as EU Rates Follow Suit
The euro area experienced an annual inflation rate of 3.2% in August 2026, according to Eurostat's latest figures. This represents a slight increase from July's 2.9%. A year ago, the annual inflation rate was significantly lower at 2.0%.
European Union annual inflation followed suit with a rate of 3.2% in August 2026, also up from 3.0% in July. The lowest annual rates were observed in Sweden (0.3%), Estonia (1.3%), and Czechia (1.5%). In contrast, Romania's inflation rate soared to 6.3%, followed by Lithuania at 5.6% and Cyprus at 5.2%.
Comparing August 2026 to July, annual inflation rates fell in six member states, remained stable in one, and rose in twenty. These figures highlight the varying economic conditions within the European Union.
