Euro Area Inflation Soars to 3.8% on Energy Price Shock
Inflation in the Euro area has accelerated to 3.8% in September 2026, up from 3.2% in August, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat.
The main driver of this increase is energy prices, which have surged by 18.8% year-over-year, making it the highest annual inflation rate among the major components.
Services also saw an increase in inflation, reaching 3.2% in September, while food, alcohol, and tobacco recorded a moderate rise to 1.4%, up from 1.1% in August.
