Euro Area Net Saving Holds Steady at €902 Billion in Q1 2026
The Euro area's net saving held steady at €902 billion in the first quarter of 2026, according to the European Central Bank's quarterly report. This represents a slight increase from the previous four-quarter period, where net savings stood at €900 billion. The central bank notes that this stability is largely driven by steady household and non-financial corporate saving.
Meanwhile, net non-financial investment across the monetary union decreased to €629 billion, accounting for 4.9 percent of net disposable income. This decline was primarily caused by lower capital expenditure from both non-financial corporations and financial corporations. As a result, net lending from the Euro area to the rest of the world increased to €307 billion, up from €296 billion previously.
