Euro Crashes to Record Low Against Albanian Lek
The Euro has hit an all-time low against the Albanian Lek, trading at 91.4 Lekë per Euro. This marks a significant decline in value since the first quarter of this year, with the annual drop reaching 5.7%. The continuous depreciation is attributed to weak demand for the European currency and increased foreign exchange inflows due to tourism.
According to Bank of Albania statistics, the current account deficit has decreased by 40.6% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. This reduction is largely driven by growth in services exports and remittances, with tourism revenues increasing by 20%.
The strong growth in foreign direct investment also contributed to the improved balance, with a significant development project in the real estate sector influencing flows. Additionally, the large fiscal surplus has reduced the supply of Lek in the market, further supporting the downward trend in the Euro's value.
