Euro Hits Historic Low Against Albanian Lek
The Euro has hit an all-time low against the Albanian Lek, trading at 93.07 lekë for the first time in history, according to the Bank of Albania's official exchange rate.
This marks a significant decline from its historical high of 140.4 lek reached in February 2011, representing a decrease of 34% or approximately 47.5 lek less than its peak value.
The Euro/Lek exchange rate has been trending downward since the beginning of this year, with a fall of 3.8% from the start of 2026.
Market sources attribute the seasonal decline to the peak tourist season, which is expected to bring in more foreign inflows and contribute to the downward trend.
The Bank of Albania has been intervening in the foreign exchange market, buying currency to control the decline. However, their efforts have only partially mitigated the effect, with the Central Bank withdrawing almost 2.2 billion euros from the market since 2024.
