Euro Holds Firm Against Pound as ECB Stance Outweighs UK Economic Woes

The euro has maintained its strength against the British pound in recent trading sessions, despite a broader shift towards risk-off sentiment in global markets. The EUR/GBP pair is currently trading near the 0.8600 level, little changed from the previous close.

This resilience of the single currency comes as the European Central Bank (ECB) has signaled it will not cut interest rates anytime soon, with inflation in the eurozone still above its 2% target. ECB President Christine Lagarde reiterated last week that the central bank would remain data-dependent, keeping borrowing costs elevated.

The UK economy's fragile outlook is also contributing to the euro's strength against sterling. GDP growth has flatlined, and the services sector showed signs of contraction in the latest PMI data, making it more likely for the Bank of England (BoE) to ease policy soon.
