Euro Slumps Against Pound Amid Rising Oil Prices and Interest Rate Concerns
The Euro (EUR) has dropped sharply against the British Pound (GBP), testing support at the 0.8570 area on Monday, after reversing last week's gains. This decline is attributed to the rally in Brent Oil prices crossing the $100 per barrel mark.
The absence of key Eurozone macroeconomic data and the rise in oil prices driven by US President Donald Trump's rejection of the latest peace proposal presented by Tehran have been major drivers of market activity on Monday, putting pressure on the Euro.
Additionally, Bank of England Deputy Governor Dave Ramsden stated that interest rates may need to rise if inflation pressures build, echoing comments made by Governor Andrew Bailey and Deputy Governor Clare Lombardell last week.
