Euro Slumps to 17-Month Low Amid Debt Concerns
The euro dropped to its lowest level in 17 months against the dollar on Monday, fueled by concerns over France's growing debt and its potential impact on the stability of the broader single currency bloc. The Guardian reported that the euro declined by approximately 0.8% in early trading, dipping below $1.12, a level not seen since May 2025. The currency later recovered some of its losses but still faced a significant decline of about 1.2% this month alone.
This recent fall accelerates a downward trend that has seen the euro lose around eight cents against the dollar since peaking at $1.20 in January. Analysts point to growing apprehension over France’s debt position as a key factor driving this weakness in the euro.
