Euro Stagnates Against Yen Amid Intervention Fears
The Euro has plateaued against the Japanese Yen as investors grow increasingly anxious about potential intervention in the currency market. Swaps markets indicate that there is less than a 20% chance of a rate hike at the end of October, but a 90% probability of an increase by December.
A Nikkei report revealed that Japanese officials have been conducting rate checks, which traders view as a precursor to currency intervention. This has left investors on edge, particularly given the recent actions taken by the Bank of Japan (BoJ).
ECB President Christine Lagarde stated that any further interest rate hikes will depend on future market conditions and will be decided meeting by meeting.
